Mom's Kitchen Makeover

I would like to say that remodeling our home gave my mother the remodeling bug for her home, but unfortunately for her, this was not a planned renovation.  My mom bought her current home five years ago, and if you know my mother, she loves to renovate and restore homes.  The house she bought needed a lot of love and she started right away by ripping up the carpet and refinishing the hardwood floors on her own.  She also tackled the bathroom by herself and re-tiled the shower and re-purposed the vanity, turning it from a 70's memory to a shabby chic masterpiece.  She was slowly working on the kitchen and she had completed repainting the cabinets and had finished the floor when she went and had bought new counter top to put on.  This is when she noticed that he new floor was buckling next to the sink and after an inspection she found that she had a slow leak in the wall that caused a lot of water and mold damage in the kitchen and the bathroom.  After meeting with the insurance company and a contractor she learned that all of her hard work over the last couple of years would have to be torn out in order to fix the damage in the walls and floors.  As devastating as this was, this gave my mother an opportunity to redesign her kitchen and maximize the space that she has.  Then instead of having to do the work on her own again, she was able to hire out all of the work and four weeks later she had a new bathroom and kitchen.  My mother has a great eye for detail and her new space turned out to be an amazing space.
I wish that I had pictures of what he kitchen looked like when she first moved in because it was truly a disaster.  I did manage to take some pictures of her kitchen after she had done some of work before it had to be torn out.  I also do not have any pictures of the bath, so I will have to take some next time I am home to show you the vanity that she transformed.

Some Before's

Now the After's...

I love how she changed the layout to include banquette seating and made her kitchen more efficient by having a true triangle layout.  I also love her subway tile back splash and the stainless steel strip that she used to wrap around her counter top!  Great job mom!
